RELEVANCE RAISES RESPONSE

WVU Alumni Association Spotlight: Interview with Author Bob Bentz

Mobile Marketing Podcast: WVU Alumni Association

The author of Relevance Raises Response, Bob Bentz, was recently interviewed by the WVU Alumni Association as part of its Spotlight Series. The interview is part of a podcast series that highlights alumni achievements of the West Virginia Alumni Association and the university. A different alumni is featured each month in the Spotlight Series.

During the interview with WVU Alumni Association President Sean Frisbee, Bentz discusses the origins and history of the 28-year-old company Advanced Telecom Services and its spin-off Purplegator which was established in 2014. He also talks about his initial venture into the ringtone business which led to how the company got its start into mobile marketing. That involvement started with the creation of mobile technology and evolved into both technology and providing marketing services. The discussion then moves to the evolution of mobile marketing itself and how mobile is ideal for small business marketing with its geo-location and other pinpoint targeting features that only mobile can provide. Then, there’s an interesting conversation about his work as an adjunct at the University of Denver and the graduate-level course in mobile marketing that he teaches at DU. It was the teaching that inspired Bob to write the book.

Bob Bentz is a 1981 graduate of West Virginia University where he majored in journalism. He is a long-time fan of the school who follows its sports teams and is a football season ticket holder. You can find him tailgating at all home games near C3 in the Blue Lot. He is also a lifetime member of the WVU Alumni Association.

The interview concludes with Bentz creating a soundbite that will surely be used again by the Alumni Association:

“The decision to come to WVU was one of the best that I’ve ever made.”
